J, you are correct. I am kind of obsessed with Werner Herzog. Sometimes he just gets things exactly right:

That almost exactly sums up why I quit my great job, ditched my great apartment and moved across the country with no job prospects just over 3 years ago. How can I not be fascinated? Plus, he has several other interesting things to say. Not to mention a few amazing films to his credit.

Well, that photo is great, and some of his quotes were pretty funny, but, MAN ALIVE, I cannot stand his films. They seriously make me want to throw up on myself and shoot him. Granted, I've only seen Grizzly Man and The White Diamond; but i just don't know if i can handle any more. I'm willing to try one more, L, if you want to recommend.
Actually, I take that back, i think i liked Nosferatu (or however you spell it, spelling police), but i saw it a long time ago and can't remember. So i'll try that one again.

Oh, no, never mind, I didn't see Herzog's Nosferatu, I saw Murnau's one, so I still haven't seen a Herzog picture i like.
hmm. maybe "rescue dawn"? i recommend watching it after "little dieter needs to fly."
the latter is a documentary about this crazy german (shock!), and the former is the reenacted version of the same story starring christian bale.
but i loved "grizzly man," so maybe we'll just agree to disagree...

A lot of the time I am probably THE most annoying person to watch a film with. I can't always "suspend" like I used to, or should for that matter. L, suggested "little dieter needs to fly"and I am going to and do it! On many levels I appreciated Grizzly Man, though parsing it out a found Treadwell the man very hard to tolerate thus distracting.
treadwell was an ass, which is something i found interesting about it all. in any case, 'little dieter' and 'rescue dawn' are pretty hard to hate, i think, although you may not love them. there's also 'land of silence & darkness'--i still have the image of a deaf-blind boy clinging to a radio, feeling its reverberations, smiling insanely, stuck in my mind. crazy stuff. *l
