Sailing Backwards
Friday afternoon we went sailing for the first time since November. Naturally, it was a cold day with only spotty light wind. We were sailing on a beam reach. The sail in the front of the boat, called a jib, is typically full of wind, ours looks pretty flat here. The current was swift and strong due to the increased snow melt; so we actually drifted backwards about 1/2 mile.
At one point, I was at the helm and managed to catch a little wind, maybe three knots with the current counteracting our scant progress, we managed to stay put- like a giant treadmill. *k
